Acupuncture
Due to their strong internal nervous structure, known as the limbic system, it is thought that horses often respond well to acupuncture. At Shanaghan Veterinary Services, we offer patient centred care therefore each acupuncture treatment is specifically tailored to each individual.
Once a physical assessment is carried out treatment can begin. Acupuncture involves the delicate insertion of ultra-thin, sterile, stainless steel needles through specific points on the body. Targeting the peripheral and central nervous system, acupuncture also acts through connective tissue and fascial mechanism.
Positive physiological responses to acupuncture can be seen early in treatment and last long after treatment ends however optimum responses are seen over a gradual period of treatment. An average of four to six treatments is recommended every seven to 14 days and after the post-treatment period, we can analyse the effects and recommend top-up treatments if and when required.
